So January 2020 arrived and as the rest of the world set their goals for the year.... creating New Years resolutions, whether that be to be healthier, new job, or becoming more social, it was time to smash those goals!!We’re now 3 weeks in and I just want to say if your still going then great...you can do this!! And if your feeling like your falling at your first hurdle.....that’s ok too.
I feel like this year, the first year in a long time I felt i wasn’t ready to set my goals on the 1st January....so I’ve spent the past 3 weeks procrastinating!! My Present Self and my Future Self have been at odds with each other.
When you set goals for yourself — like losing weight or writing a book or learning a language — you are actually making plans for your Future Self. You are envisioning what you want your life to be like in the future.
Researchers have found that when you think about your Future Self, it is quite easy for your brain to see the value in taking actions with long-term benefits. The Future Self values long-term rewards.
However, while the Future Self can set goals, only the Present Self can take action. When the time comes to make a decision, you are no longer making a choice for your Future Self. Now you are in the present moment, and your brain is thinking about the Present Self.
So, for the past 3 weeks my Future Self wants to be trim and fit, but my Present Self wants a donut. 😂😂 🍩
But the past few days.....all that shame & anxiety of not starting with the rest of the world has subsided because I’ve taken action and realised the only person that can do this....is ME!! #Bring on 2020 🙌🏻
