October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. @Saucony released the UNITY Kinvara 9, a limited-edition running shoe made to benefit breast cancer research and the Dr. Susan Love Foundation. 20% of the proceeds directly benefit the Dr. Susan Love Foundation and their research. Not only is this shoe my favorite shoe of the season (hello pink!), it is a tangible way you can partner with a brand who's putting their money where their mouth is in the fight against breast cancer.
In so many ways, the tentacles of this disease touch so many of our lives. My grandma, my Aunts, friends... have battled breast cancer. There's a good chance I might have to fight. It sucks. It steals. It kills. Not only should we be informed and, as women, be vigilant about self exams and early detection, but we've got to do what we can to join the fight.
The statistics are staggering. According to breastcancer.org: "1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12.4%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. In 2017, it's estimated that about 30% of newly diagnosed cancers in women will be breast cancers."
